That’s exactly what exploring the Chennakeshava Temple, Somanathapura felt like, a stunning architectural gem located near Mysuru.
Built in 1268 CE during the reign of the Hoysala Dynasty, this temple is dedicated to Chennakeshava (form of Vishnu).
What truly stands out is the signature Hoysala architecture — a star-shaped platform, three beautifully aligned shrines, and walls completely covered with intricate carvings.
As you walk around the temple, the details slowly unfold — scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, graceful dancers, mythical creatures, and delicate floral motifs, all carved with unbelievable precision.
It’s fascinating to think these sculptures have stood here for more than 750 years, preserving the craftsmanship and artistic brilliance of the Hoysala era.
