Although beaches are not the first thing that comes to mind while considering Singapore as a holiday destination, still if you are a lazy beach bum, always craving for Sun, Sea and Sand like us, then this post is for you ! 

Whenever we plan our vacation, the thought of lazy lounging in the sand while admiring azure waters  dominates our mind. The relaxed vibes & tropical sun is so addictive , isn’t it?  So when we finalised Singapore as our holiday destination, there was a bit of apprehension about missing out on the beach fun. But let me be honest, Singapore is one destination which offers almost all that you wish for ( I guess except for desert and snow). 

More popular for its attractions like Sentosa IslandUniversal studiogardens by the bayMarina Bay SandsSingapore also has some of the great beaches where you can enjoy as a family, So you don’t have to worry about missing out on that leisure beach time. You can still have a happening and action packed holiday that Singapore offers along with moments of fun.

We can categorise beaches in Singapore into 3 types based on their location,

You can choose to explore them based on the time available with you ( although whatever time you have, it’s never enough to explore whole of Singapore)

Best Family friendly Beaches in Singapore

Changi Beach 

One of the best beaches in Singapore for Swim and for spotting the low flying planes (given its proximity to Changi Airport). Changi beach is located on the east coast. This beach is popular spot amongst families looking to spend quality time together. Its also popular among fitness freaks and leisure lovers who jog on the mystic trails of Changi Beach Park.

East Coast Park 

East Coast park is one the popular urban getaway among Singaporeans and also tourists alike. True to its theme “Recreation for all” this park not only offers good beaches to enjoy a lazy day but also many  other fun activities, adventure sports and eat out zone to engage people from all age groups. Spread along 15 km of coastline ,the East Coast Park’s objective is to create a city within a park.

Pasir Ris Beach 

Pasir Ris Beach and park is a perfect place to spend wonderful time with family. Pasir Ris, means the “Beach bolt rope”, owing to the narrow beach, is a popular picnic spot in Singapore. The park not only offers activities like pony rides, water sports, cycling etc but also 6 hectares of preserved Mangrove forest. This can be explored through multiple mangrove trails and Mangrove boardwalk. This forest also has a bird watching tower from where you can observe birds in their natural surroundings.

Best family friendly Beaches in Sentosa 

Palawan Beach 

Surrounded by the swaying palm trees, soft glistening sand and blue-green water, Palawan beach is one of the most picturesque beaches in Singapore, also the Southernmost point of Continental Asia. Water here is calm without much waves making it an ideal spot for young children to enjoy. There is a fun zone, ‘Port of Lost Wonder’, right in front of the beach which is based on Pirates world theme. The popular wooden bridge adds to the beauty of the beach. 

Siloso Beach 

One of the most happening and crowded beaches in Sentosa island, Siloso Beach is always buzzing with activities like swimming, canoeing, beach volleyball, not to forget the happening parties. There are many eateries and beach shacks to enjoy your time at the beach. You can reach Silso Island through monorail. You can also enjoy the mesmerizing “Wing of Times” 3d light and sound show which takes place right next to Silso beach.

Tanjong Beach 

Tanjong beach is hidden in the south coast of Sentosa and has a crescent-shaped beachline. Although more popular as adult beach and ultimate party destinations, Tanjong beach is crowded with Families and beach sports enthusiasts on weekends. Tanjong Beach Club also organizes night beach parties every fortnight here. 

Islands in and around Singapore 

St. John Island 

One of the southern islands in Singapore located around 6.5 km from mainland Singapore. St. John island formerly housed a quarantine station for cholera cases detected among immigrants in the late 19th century. Today the island is popular getaway from the city for both locals and tourists alike. Swimming on the beach and picnic with friends and family are the main activities at this island. St. John Island also has accommodation facility in the form of holiday bungalows which even comes with a kitchen.

Kusu Island

Kusu Island is one of the southern islands off Singapore located 5.6 km from the mainland. This Island has a sanctuary which is home to hundreds of Turtles. Kusu Island is popular for its lagoons, pristine beaches and natural beauty including lush green trees, clear waters and white sand. Afternoon picnics on the island are also very popular, although no food or beverage service providers are situated on the island. Overnight stay in the island is not permitted.

Lazarus Island 

If you are looking for a peaceful afternoon amidst nature, away from the hustle bustle of the city, then Lazarus island is the perfect place for you. Also known as Pulau Sakijang Pelepah, Lazarous island is home to pristine beaches and unspoilt natural surroundings. Joined with St. John’s Island through a concrete bridge, Lazarus Island falls in between St. John’s Island and Kusu Island can be reached via public Ferry from South Marina pier to St. Johns Island. Like Kusu island Lazarus island too doesn’t have any provision for accommodation or any shop.

Bintan Island 

Although a part of Indonesia’s Riau Archipelago, Bintan Island is a short ferry ride away from Singapore and is one of the popular luxury weekend getaways from Singapore. Bintan is a perfect place to unwind yourself and enjoy a great vacation away from the hustle bustle of the city life. Batam Island 

Batam is the largest city in the province of Riau Archipelago, Indonesia and it’s a short ferry ride away from Singapore. Relatively cheaper than Bintan Island, Batam offers laid back and relaxed vibes along with spas, resorts, restaurants, cafes and other water activities including snorkelling and diving.

  5. I lived in Singapore for a bit when I was in middle school and have great memories of going to Sentosa, but I’m sure everything has changed so much! I’d be so curious to go back and check out some of these beaches in Singapore.

  8. I travel with family and so it is great that you listed some of the best family friendly beaches in Singapore. I would love to go for Pasir Ris Beach, Singapore as it is very green and for me Singapore was a concrete jungle.
