My Swiss travel Diary – Exploring the lesser known places in Switzerland

It’s been already 3 weeks that I am back from Switzerland. Since than, I have been very eager to write about my experiences. Plan was to write the day I landed. Well couldn’t do it then. But even after so many days, the memories of this beautiful place are still fresh in my mind.

During my 5 days journey, which was mostly official, I got an opportunity to explore Cham, Zug and Lucerne. Although I missed visiting Zurich but No regrets! I had an amazing experience exploring the countryside and local surroundings! Here’s Sharing My Swiss travel diary where I explored some of the lesser known places in Switzerland

Switzerland – The country

Mesmerising, amazing, beautiful are the words just not enough to describe Switzerland. It’s much more than this. This place is heavenly, probably one of the most beautiful places on Earth! Off course expensive too!

Here is my account of 5 days mostly through the pictures (picture speaks louder than words!)

Day 1

I landed at Zurich airport at around 3 p.m. It took us around 45 minutes to reach Cham where my stay was organized. During the journey, we passed through many tunnels, Lush green surroundings and fresh air. When we were about to reach, I could spot the Snow clad Alps. This was really exciting and I couldn’t get my eyes off them.

We reached The Swiss ever Hotel, which is located in a picturesque and not so crowded area with sportswear showrooms, super market and beautiful houses in the surrounding.

Since it was still bright and sunny, I took a stroll around the area and came across some of the loveliest houses. Almost all the houses had beautiful gardens and blossoming trees. Lush green pastures and bright colors complimented the already beautiful landscape.

Thanks to our movies especially DDLJ, everything around looked so familiar to me J

After office (which was located at Rotkreuz, another countryside area upcoming with many offices) one of my office colleague, drove me to the near by town, Zug. We went to the market and landed in a mall, Einkaufscenter Zugerland. I just took some time out for shopping, being a week before Easter, I could see Easter bunny (Swiss have Easter bunny instead of Easter eggs) everywhere in addition to special decorations. Post shopping was time to enjoy the Zug lake, which was quit a sight. Set in the backdrop of Snow clad Mountains, from one side and the colorful buildings from other side, with clear blue skies and colorful flowers all around; this place was lively and picture perfect. Truly Amazing I must say.

Day 3

I got a chance to discover Zug a little more as we had a team dinner at a beautiful restaurant by the lake. Being a sunny day, we enjoyed our drinks watching the sunset. An evening well spent.

Day 4

To my luck, through out my stay the weather was really nice and pleasant with sun shinning bright almost all the time. And as per my friends from Switzerland, I was quite Lucky at this. Since it was not dark until 8.30 p.m. I took the opportunity to walk around and explore the surroundings a bit more. One thing that really impressed me about people in Switzerland is that even before you are ready to cross the road, the passing by vehicles will stop for you. Which is really a humble gesture and rare too.

Walking through the beautiful lanes, I came across poppy garden on the foothill of something that looked like a church (because I heard bell from there every hour). Best part here was people coming to pick flowers were paying directly at the booth and nobody was there to monitor or collect the money. A little further I reached a nice seat out covered by trees and surrounded by endless grass fields and flowers at the backdrop of picturesque mountains. At this point the feeling of tranquility that I felt is really hard to describe or capture through lenses. It was just magical.

Day 5

Finally the plan to visit Lucerne materialized, 2 of my colleagues accompanied me and guided me through the city. Lucerne is just beautiful, especially around Lucerne Lake. You can explore the entire city by walking or you can get Bicycles for free. Being a popular tourist destination off course this place buzzing with tourists. We passed through the water bridge and visited Max Chocolatier, which as per my friends, is the only shop that prepares handmade chocolates, we tried special edition chocolate made up of mint and was really unique. Rest of the evening was super fun with lots of talks, wine and food. Well to write in detail about the Lucerne visit, I will surely write a separate blog!

This was how my short trip to Switzerland came to an end. It was an absolutely memorable trip and I will surely soon visit the place again to discover this heavenly country.

Tips

  • Taxis are super expensive, try out local transports like Bus and trains.
  • Switzerland offers a great variety of Cheese, chocolates and wines, don’t forget to try as much as you can.

  1. I am still in Zurich these days infact on my Europe tour . In Switzerland Visited Bern, Interlaken , Mt. Titlis , Jungfraujoch, Lucern , and Zud. The Bridge in Lucern shown in your picture is the oldest wooden bridge where one side is Lake Lucern where we can see big Swans and other side is River Reuss. Its a happy and exciting feeling to see you too travelling to same places, near by the same time.

  10. We love the Swiss houses. We really enjoyed them and took a ton of photos while we were in Zermatt. I am pretty sure we took a train from Zermatt to Lucerne and it passed through Zug or maybe it was on the way somewhere else but I definitely remember this city. We also went to Max!!! It was really good.
